TICKED OFF

TICKED OFF.
Winston Alexander, another farmer, pointed out that the farmers had problems with marketing, water and housing.

‘It is true that we can feed the nation but we cannot do so if our crops are dying from lack of water. We are forced to sell our crops cheap. For instance, we have to sell tomatoes at 50 cents a pound so that people can go and sell them for $2.50 a pound. The farmers want to build houses on the land but they tell us that we cannot because the land does not belong to us,’ he said.

In relation to the accusations that they were subletting the land to non-nationals, the farmers said while this was true, only three farmers were doing so.

‘One of the farmers got fed up and told them to come back for their land but they told him they could not because the lease was not up so he sublet the land because he is not using it anymore,’ explained Gaskin.

Base your Marketing on Past Success, New Methods

June 24th, 2008 by Business Marketing

Base your Marketing on Past Success, New Methods.
To make the most of your career, you need to base your marketing on past success as well as new methods that are taking over the industry. If you combine what you have done in the past to succeed, as well as what you can do in the future to reach this goal, you will find yourself in a good position.

What are some of the newest methods that insurance agents can take advantage of? Most commonly, more and more agents are purchasing online insurance leads instead of relying only on more traditional sources. This is definitely the wave of the future, but at the same time it is a method that many have yet to take on. As an agent, you may be scared of what buying online insurance leads will bring, but in the long run it is to your advantage to move in this direction. You do not want to get passed up by other agents, do you?

Even if you are still making a lot of sales based on past marketing methods, this does not mean that you should ignore the benefits of buying leads.

June 21st, 2008 by Business Marketing

The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.
Advertisers and media owners will need to ensure that campaigns and promotional marketing material meet the new regulations.3. What do they mean for online advertising? The new law is technology neutral. In other words it is not specific to the digital and online world. However, any practice used online which is deemed unfair, misleading or aggressive will fall foul of the new rules. This means if an advert or piece of marketing is a disguised commercial practice it will be captured. So, imitating a consumer or not being up front about an advertiser”s intention within a piece of marketing is no longer allowed. To this extent, misleading word of mouth” or buzz” marketing becomes an offence, as well as fake blogs or astroturfing”. Online product placements will need to be made clear to the consumer.Among the specific 31 banned practices are the following:Spam: Making persistent and unwanted solicitations by telephone, fax, email or other remote media except in circumstances or to enforce a contractual obligation.Unclear Advertorials: Using editorial in the media to promote a product where a marketer has paid for the promotion without making it clear to the consumer.Targeting children: Including in an advert a direct exhortation to children to buy advertised products or persuade their parents or other adults (pester power”) to buy advertised products for them.Use of the word free”: Describing a product as free” or without charge” if the consumer has to pay anything other than the unavoidable cost of responding to the commercial practice and collecting or paying for deliverly of the item. For clarity, this does not capture Buy One Get One Free Offers” but would capture bundling” situations when part of the bundle is described as free when in practice there is an expense in acquiring the larger bundle (eg in communications services).4.

New dimension in detection

New dimension in detection.
Siemens is also a few years away from marketing a 3-D system.

‘The basic technology is the same’ for all three companies, said Joseph Lo, assistant professor of radiology and biomedical engineering at Duke University Medical Center, who is leading a clinical study of the Siemens system. ‘There are some fine differences, but I believe the results [in detecting cancer] will be very similar.’

Indeed, Massachusetts General Hospital is testing both GE and Hologic machines, and so far has not found that one is significantly better than the other in detecting cancer, despite GE”s claim that its system offers higher resolution, officials say.

‘There probably won”t be a lot of qualitative differences,’ said Dr. Elizabeth Rafferty, director of breast imaging at the hospital, who is heading clinical studies of Hologic”s system.

Will Obama Be America”s First Search Engine President?

June 18th, 2008 by Business Marketing

Will Obama Be America”s First Search Engine President?.
In 2008 Barack Obama may become the first President elected in part through the power of search marketing.

Barack Obama is poised to overtake Hillary Clinton tomorrow in pledged delegates to become the Democrat”s nominee in the general election. If he manages to win the White House against Republican John McCain it could very well be because of his targeted outreach to voters, and specifically his use of search engine marketing on Google. Put in context, media research firm PQ Media estimated that although most candidates will have spent less than 2% of their total advertising spend on search marketing this still represents a whopping 151% increase over 2004. Of all of the candidates so far it”s no secret that Obama has been the most aggressive in online outreach above and beyond search.

June 14th, 2008 by Business Marketing

The Market Story Stocks Turn Higher on New Data.
Still, pointed out Art Hogan, chief market analyst with Jefferies, much of what buoyed the overall figure were gains in the stock market. ‘So it”s a self-fulfilling prophecy, to a certain extent,’ he said. The Board also said that the interest rate spread and improving numbers of housing permits outweighed harsh slides in average weekly hours and consumer expectations. Hogan pointed out that there are very few other catalysts to move things along today, though ‘we”re still staring down the barrel of a very expensive price for crude, and markets continue rallying in the face of that.’ ‘Something”s got to give pretty soon,’ he said, ‘and a lot of people it might be crude.’ Recently, crude oil was rising 39 cents to $126.68 a barrel, and gold futures were up $6 at $905.90 an ounce. The U.S. dollar was erasing early losses, firming by 0.5% against the euro at $1.5502 and rising 0.4% against the yen to fetch 104.50.
